  • Wine production in Bairrada , on the Beira Litoral coast , has deep roots dating back to Roman and Arab times. This region is characterized by a strong maritime influence and a temperate Atlantic climate, with rainy winters and hot summers, and significant temperature variations during the grape ripening phase. Added to this are its clayey, clay-limestone, and sandy soils, creating ideal conditions for the production of high-quality wines. Bairrada is famous for its sparkling wines , which are a national benchmark, but also for its red and white wines.
  • In 1979, the CVR Bairrada (Bairrada Wine Commission) was founded, the entity responsible for the certification, regulation, and guarantee of excellence of the region's wines. The queen of Bairrada's red grape varieties is Baga , a native variety that produces wines with high acidity and firm tannins, ideal for aging in the bottle. Other red varieties include Alfrocheiro, Tinta Pinheira, Touriga Nacional , and Cabernet Sauvignon . Among the white varieties, Maria Gomes ( Fernão Pires ) stands out as the main one. Other important white varieties are Bical , Arinto , Cercial , and Rabo-de-Ovelha , which contribute to the production of high-quality white wines.
